Slit lamp Biomicroscopy
As part of every ocular assessment, we use a slit-lamp microscope, a high-magnification instrument that allows us to examine the front of the eye in detail. This enables us to detect any abnormalities, whether related to dry eye or not, including blepharitis, Demodex infestation, and eyelid irregularities.
To assess the health of the eye’s surface, specialised diagnostic dyes such as fluorescein and lissamine green may be applied. These dyes help identify areas of cellular stress or damage caused by dry eye disease.
The slit-lamp examination also allows us to evaluate tear film break-up time and tear meniscus (prism) height, providing valuable information about tear stability and tear volume.
