Schirmer’s Test

This is a well-established and effective test used to assess aqueous deficiency, which is a reduced production of the watery component of the tears.
The test measures tear production by placing a small, soft paper strip inside the lower eyelid. The amount of moisture produced over a set period is then recorded.
The test takes approximately five minutes to complete. Normal results help rule out aqueous-deficient dry eye, allowing us to focus on other potential causes of symptoms.
